Javier Rodríguez Nebreda (born 26 March 1974), commonly known as Javi Rodríguez, is a Spanish futsal player currently playing at Kuwait Club. He is the most capped Spanish Futsal player and the highest scoring a true superstar in his own right, known as JR 7 his honour list is full of trophies and accomplishments.

As with all of the Legends Javi started playing at an early age, he was 6 when he started to play for his school team Santa Rosa he continued to the age of 9 when he decided to concentrate on football. Throughout his teenage years he played for various clubs but at the age of 18 he was influenced by a coach called ‘Paco’ who describes as an excellent coach who respects and admires. His first futsal team was Sant Andreu in the Youth Divisions National First Division A.

Where he really excelled and learnt a big part of his game started in 1992 when he joined Industrias Garcia of the Honour Division in the Spanish National Futsal league. It took only two short months before Javi was called up for the Spanish National Futsal side which was an enormous achievement and the start of an illustrious international career. His debut was in 1993 at an international championship held in Milan, Italy alongside other acclaimed players in a match versus the Japanese Futsal team where Spain came out winners 11-0.

By the year 2000 Javi had won x2 Champion Nations tournaments IV with the Spanish national team, a Champions Cup I (1998) & II (1999) and Champions League with Playas de Castellón who he moved to from Garcia in 1997. It was that year he was a big part of the Spanish National side who won their first FIFA Futsal World Cup, his two penalties gave Spain the come back they needed from 3-2 down to defeat Brazil in the final 4-3.

The major honours continued to roll in with Spain & Playas de Castellón winning a further 7 trophies between 2000 – 2004 including a UEFA European Championship in 2001. His successful 2004 season was topped off by Spain again being crowned two time World Champions in China-Taipei defeating Brazil in the semi finals and overcoming Italy in the final. Javi was awarded with the silver ball acknowledging his placeas the second best player in the world. His international success continued in 2005 where he led Spain to a 2nd UEFA European title. Javi won his 2nd and Spain’s 3rd Euro championship in 2007, Brazil 2008 marked Rodriguez as the only Spanish player to play in 4 World Championship tournaments. His international career was given the perfect send off as Spain won their 5th Euro title in 2010 with JR7 as the top goal scorer in thetournament winning the golden boot.In 2006 Javi move to FC Barcelona where the coach described him as ‘the best Spanish player ever’. Javi was signed for more than just his media impact, leadership and status he was part of a plan to bring Barcelona to the forefront of Futsal. This reached a pinnacle last season with Barcelona winning the UEFA Futsal Cup, the victory meant 17 successive season for at least one of the Barcelona professional teams as European champions. At 38 Javi Rodriguez left Barcelona on a high and now plays for Kuwait Club.

Javi Rodriguez’s honours show that he is a true Futsal Legend excelling at the highest level and being part of an era where Spain have dominated Futsal in Europe and Worldwide.

As the national Futsal team reap the plaudits in Italy for the great feat of finishing 3rd in the competition this Saturday will turn attention to the current top two sides in the league.

Top of the table Asti return to action after the break in the season to take on 2nd place Monsilvano. Fresh from Thailand this fixture welcomes back 7 players involved in the tournament with 4 players from the Italian national side which finished 3rd (Lima, Patias, Vampeta Fortino) including the number 1 Italian between the sticks Stefano Mammarella. Asti will have to continue there good form to stay on top of the Serie A1 table.

Naples will be looking to hold off 6th place Alter Ego Luparense however this will be no easy feat as the Wolves are one of the three undefeated teams in the league so far this season and have looked impressive in friendlies played during the break in the season.

Kaos Futsal will host 4th place Acqua & Sapone Fiderma, Kaos looked to gain some form in friendlies and picked up two victories however they lost there last friendly to Asti. Congianco Genzano Futsal look to emulate the winning ways of the U21 squad, they will take on mid table Pescara in Saturdays fixture.

Marca Futsal have a chance of pushing themselves back in the top positions should they overcome Verona, Marca are unbeaten in the last 4 games and with the top of the table clash a win would get them back in contention.

The remaining two fixtures consist of a mid table battle between Lazio and Real Reiti and a bottom of the table dual between Franco Gomme Venezia and bottom of the table Promomedia Five Sports. Promomedia Five Sports have lost all 5 games so far this season and will want to use the break as a chance to kick start there season by getting some points on the board.

Asti Vs Montesilvano

Kaos Futsal Vs Acqua & Sapone Fiderma

Lazio Vs Real Rieti

Marca Futsal Vs AGSM Verona

Naples Vs Alter Ego Luparense

Pescara Vs Cogianco Genzano Futsal

Franco Gomme Venezia Vs Promomedia Five Sports

Look out for the highlights next week

So with the FIFA Futsal World Cup over we now turn our attention back to the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Sala first division this weekend with 7 great games to restart the league.

The league will welcome back from Thailand no fewer than 4 world champions along with 7 runners up from the Spanish team not to mention a 3rd placer. Barca top the league at the moment but that lead is matched by Inter Movistar, Elpozo Murica, and Santiago Futsal. The most successful futsal team in Spain last year will have an away fixture against midtable Caja Segovia and will need to win to keep hold of the top spot.

Elpozo who have 3 of the Spanish runners up within the team also have an away fixture at Zaragoza. It’s a game Elpozo must win if they have the intentions of being champions this season. Both teams met in pre season where the game finished 3-1 in Elpozo Murcia’s favour so they will be hoping for much of the same this time round.

Inter Movistar will take on bottom place Burela, Movistar will welcome home there world champion Rafael França Bezerra (Rafael) who managed to bag himself 3 goals and 5 assists throughout the tournament.

The last of the leading pack playing this weekend will be Santiago Futsal who again are away in their fixture against Manacor. Santiago will look to keep their unbeaten winning streak going by taking all 3 points this weekend. Three points will be vital if Santiago are to achieve their goal of reaching the Spainsh cup.

Rios Renovables have tough fixture against Marfil Santa Coloma, to close the 3 point gap on the leaders they are going to have to keep quiet Marfil’s dangerous four formed by Salgado, Sepe, Adolfo and jhow who have looked impressive during the season break.

The middle of table is just as close as the top with 3 teams on 6 points an only a further 2 points separating another 2 teams. With most of the chasing pack (Caja Segovia, Marfil Santa Coloma, Umacon Zaragoza, Gáldar and Fisiomedia Manacor) playing against teams above them it will be a great chance to claw back some points an get closer to securing that important top 8 finish.

Navarra Vs Galdar

Manacor Vs Autos Lobelle

Marfil Santa Coloma Vs Ríos Renovables

Sala 10 Zaragoza Vs ElPozo Murcia

Burela Vs Inter Movistar

Caja Segovia Vs Barcelona
Checkout our Liga Nacional de Fútbol Sala highlights next week.

The 2012 Fifa Futsal World cup comes to a close this weekend and in what has been the biggest ever tournament (24 teams) sees what many people deem to be the dream match up as Spain comes up against Brazil.

These two teams are of course the only winners of the competition, Brazil having won it four times and Spain having won it twice, and with both teams are also number 1 and 2 in the world victory in this match will cement the victors status as the best side in Futsal.

Both sides have been in impressive form throughout the competition and it will be tough to pick a winner, upon looking at the results of both teams it is a fair assessment to say that Brazil have been the more impressive as they have won every game with the most impressive result being the win against Argentina (despite beating Panama 16-0) in which they came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in extra time.

Spain made a stuttering start to the competition when they through a lead away to draw 2-2 with Iran but since then they have been flawless as they have systematically defeated each and every opponent they have come up against. It would be a fair argument to state that Spain’s route to the final has indeed possibly been a little more difficult than Brazil’s. While Brazil has faced Panama, Argentina and then Columbia en route to the final Spain have had to go through hosts Thailand, UEFA Euro finalists Russia and then Italy in the semi but Spain have come through them all.

This promises to be a fascinating final and an impossible one to predict however this will indeed be a match to remember and we at Futsal-Futbol can not wait to see it and look forward to it as much as all of you.

To see both manager’s thoughts on the game please click here

Futsal Worldwide (FWW) who are based in Barcelona and FWW EUROPE which is to be established with it’s headquarters here in the UK, are organisations whose main goal is the development and promotion of Futsal. This is on a global level with enthesis in the UK, the African Continent and the CONCACAF Zone.

Here in the UK, via their franchise FWW (UK) and across Europe they are involved in a number of projects working with Futsal clubs and federations. The main aim is to not only raise the profile of Futsal but to help improve the level of coaching and therefore the quality of Futsal being played by giving any coach who wishes it access to some of the world’s top coaches and clubs. One of FWW’s main aims in the UK is to show how useful futsal is as a development tool for young footballers and as a part of this they work with a number of football clubs from local junior to Premier League .

FWW regularly hold Futsal workshops featuring some of the world’s top coaches from clubs such as FC Barcelona, SL Benfica, from SC Corinthians to Real Madrid CF. Recently FWW (UK) arranged a very successful coaches tour to Barcelona. The coaches spent time at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper (FCB Academy) with the FC Barcelona Futsal B team and the youth team. They also attended a seminar with an FC Barcelona coach and managed to get some photos with some of FC Barcelona’s first team! Dave Perryman from Mersey Futsal said

I felt like he was in “Disneyland for coaches” and said the knowledge he gained from his time there “was invaluable”.

During their time at the academy they also had a three hour conference with FC Barcelona Futsal Coach Carlos Leandro López, an English speaking and highly experienced coach who has been with the club since 1996.

Another attending coach Neil Lucas said

I have found the publicity generated by the trip to be “the kind of advertising money can’t buy”.

Dom Beck from Leicester said

“This was the chance of a lifetime and I couldn’t believe how hard those lads worked in training, we learned so much”.

During the stay the coaches were also able to spend time with División de Honor side Marfil Santa Coloma, and as a result of the the sessions FWW will be taking some youth teams to visit Marfil next year. The tour was not all work and no play there was also time for sightseeing, a tour of the illustrious Camp Nou stadium as well as a few well deserved beers on the beach!

The Futsal clinics are not only limited to Barcelona, the workshops will soon also be running in Liverpool and Birmingham hosted by FC Barcelona coaches and are open to all. As well as the Barcelona hosted workshops we are pleased to announce more in the pipeline.

FWW will be setting-up Real Madrid Foundation Futsal Academies and Clinics from 2013 in 21 cities and five continents, with the UK Academy to be based in Sheffield in conjunction with Sheffield FC. Also just confirmed, the creation of the Real Madrid Foundation “Futsal City” in Malaga http://www.solandalusi.com/index-eng.htm to be the main headquarters and training base for the academies.

For more information with regards to the coaching clinics and tours go to the Futsal WorldWide Website www.fwwuk.com or contact them directly.

CEO & Sport Manager in Barcelona, Alberto Pastor alberto.pastor@futsalww.org or Director of Player Development in the UK, Roy Connolly, roy@futsalwwuk.com Futsal Worldwide (UK) are open to work with anyone in the game who is looking to grow as a coach, player or team.

FIFA are having to seek alternative venues for the Futsal World Cup in Thailand due to delays in the completion of the Bangkok Futsal Arena.

The $40 Million Arena in bangkok, Thailand was being rushed to meet construction deadlines in order to feature the FIFA World Futsal Cup Final spectacle, however after missing the deadlines it has now been ruled as unsafe. FIFA have said it cannot compromise “such a fundamental issue” as the security of teams and fans at the Bangkok Futsal Arena.

The arena capacity was set to hold 12,000 fans however “the functionality of core services and facilities” is incomplete.

The Final on November 18th and Semi Final matchups are set to be hosted at the Indoor Stadium Huamark in Bangkok. FIFA has now completely written off using the Bangkok Futsal Arena after multiple deadlines and extensions have not been met, organisers are blaming delays on the weather conditions such as heavy rain and flooding.

The FIFA Futsal World Cup 2012 Group F

For the latest Highlights head to our >>FIFA Futsal World Cup Post<<

Group F sees the much fancied Russia making their 5th appearance in the competition. Currently ranked number 4 in the World Russia’s FIFA Futsal World Cup history began inauspiciously in 1992, when a poor defensive record of 16 goals conceded in three matches meant elimination at the group stage. A dramatic turnaround in Spain four years later saw the Russians claim an impressive third spot with a 3-2 success over neighbours Ukraine in the deciding match. Despite never having won the competition they have won the European Championships in 1999 and finished runners up earlier this year in that very same competition so there is a sense of optimism that this year Russia will make a huge impact in a competition they finished fourth in last time out.

The next team in the group are Guatemala. Currently ranked 19 in the world the Guatemalan futsal team was created in 2000 when the FIFA Futsal World Cup was held in Guatemala. The Guatemalan team has participated in two Futsal World Cups. Guatemala was the CONCACAF champion in 2008. Their home games are held in the Domo Polideportivo in Zone 13 in Guatemala City. Their best match was a 10-1 victory over China at the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup.

The third team in the group are The Solomon Islands who are currently ranked 46 in the world and are making their second appearance in the competition. It is one of the strongest teams in Oceania, but fares poorly in competitions outside the region. The Solomon Islands national futsal team currently holds the world record for the fastest ever goal scored in an official futsal match. It was set by Kurukuru captain Elliot Ragomo, who scored against New Caledonia three seconds into the game in July 2009.

The final team in the group are Columbia who are also ranked 19 in the world rankings. They qualified for the competition by finishing fourth in the CONMEBOL futsal tournament. This will be their first appearance in the competition.

For the latest Highlights head to our >>FIFA Futsal World Cup Post<<

Group E sees Egypt coming in as Africa’s second highest ranked team at number 28 in the world. Egypt reached the FIFA Futsal World Cup 4 times. Egypt attended their first FIFA Futsal World Cup in 1996, when they achieved the first victory for Africa in the competition’s history by beating Australia 8-2. Four years later they earned Africa a quarter-final berth with notable victories over the likes of Uruguay and Russia. Although a draw with Argentina would have granted them a place in the semis, they lost 3-4 to the South Americans. The Pharaohs appeared for the third successive time in Chinese Taipei and despite a first-round exit, they made their mark with the biggest margin of victory in the tournament, 12-0 over the hosts.

The next team in the group are Serbia, currently ranked number 13 in the world they are making their first appearance in the competition, they did however qualify in 1992 but were ejected due to the Yugoslav Wars. They are a team who do have a decent international pedigree having reached the quarter finals of the European Champions in 2010 and 2012.

The third team in the group are the Czech Republic who are making their third successive appearance in the tournament. Currently ranked number 17 in the world they have never made it past the second round in the competition.

The final team in the group are Kuwait, they are making their debut in the competition and currently find themselves ranked 64th in the world making them the lowest ranking team in the tournament.

Group D sees an Argentina side making its 7th appearance in the competition. Currently ranked number 6 in the World the Argentine side will be hoping to not only make it out of the group but will also be looking to do better than the last tournament where they only made it to the second round.

The next team in the group are Mexico who are currently ranked 37 in the world. Mexico qualified for the competition by finishing fourth in the 2012 CONCACAF futsal tournament having lost 6-4 a.e.t to Panama.

The next team in the group and one of the tournament favorites are Italy. Currently ranked number 3 in the world they are fully expected to have a good tournament . Italy is one of the strongest teams in the world and have good international pedigree, they won the UEFA Futsal Championship in 2003 and finished 3rd earlier this year in the same competition.

The final team in the group are Australia who are ranked 30th in the world. Australia are making their sixth appearance in the competition so come with experience but they have never managed to get through the groups.
